Leaders of Environmental Protection

Thanks to the heating and air conditioning industry, our cities are much cleaner today than they were a century ago. Though unheralded, modern gas and electric heating systems have probably done more than any single innovation to clean the air in our cities.

Long before established organizations and environmental protocols, the heating and air conditioning industry voluntarily began to reduce and eliminate the use of ozone damaging CFCs and HFCs.

Green Ideas

Each year more homeowners make a commitment to a greener lifestyle to support a healthy environment. What are the best ways to green your HVAC system? Consider some tips:

What is the easiest way to keep green?

One of the simplest, most economical, and smartest things you can do to reduce your home's environmental impact is to tune-up the air conditioner every Spring (heat pumps should be tuned in the Spring and Fall) and to clean and adjust the furnace burners in the Fall. This helps the environment by restoring system efficiency and capacity, which reduces waste and run time. It also cuts utility expenses, reduces the potential for an equipment breakdown, and extends equipment life. It's not just smart for the environment. It's smart for your wallet and your time.

Air Filters: A Big Difference Maker

The air filter attached to your home's HVAC system is one of the most important parts. This small and fairly inexpensive piece of the heating and cooling system can play a huge part in ensuring that your system is running at maximum residential energy efficiency. When a filter is clogged with the dirt and other pollutants, it makes the system itself work harder to pull more air through it. Going green with your HVAC system means you should regularly check the filter to make sure it is working to its best ability. Replace it when necessary with a fresh filter, which are approximately $20 at your local home improvement store. Not only will you save the energy that your system is using but you will also continue to have fresh, clean air circulated through your home or office.

Install a Programmable Thermostat

This allows you to more easily turn down the system when you are sleeping or away from home. You don't have to remember to lower the heat when you leave for work in the winter; the thermostat does it for you. Some newer thermostats are Wi-Fi equipped and can be adjusted using a smart phone. That's the most effective way to reduce energy use while not at home and still have a comfortable home waiting for you when you arrive.

Seal Ductwork Leaks

Leaky ductwork can account for 25% waste of heated or cooled air. That's 25% more carbon emissions than are necessary. Marshalls is ready to handle your duct testing and sealing needs. One call does it all!
